How to Use These Benchmarks

Follow this process to translate benchmark data into campaign KPIs.

  1. Identify your target seniority. Select your primary target level and note the median open and reply rates for that segment.
  2. Apply your industry vertical. Cross-reference with the industry benchmarks. Open rates in Technology can be 8-10 points higher than in Construction.
  3. Factor in your list type. Opted-in lists outperform purchased lists by 2-3x on reply rate. Adjust targets based on list origin.
  4. Set your hard bounce threshold. Keep hard bounces below 2% regardless of segment. Above 2% signals list quality issues that will damage deliverability.
  5. Monitor and iterate monthly. Compare actuals to benchmarks monthly. Below benchmark on open rate — investigate deliverability and subject line. Below on reply rate — investigate copy and targeting precision.
